Some reactions:

  • With the holiday murder spree the Cavaliers went on, that they would eventually pass the Celtics started to seem inevitable.  Most notably the defense, which had been an okay I guess 10th in Week 4 has surged all the way to 4th.  With that the point differential has gone with it as the offense has been solid the whole way – mostly due to the league’s 2nd best three point %
  • The Celtics have been hit with the injury bug.  Heck look at the lineup they fielded to beat Toronto!  They will have a hard time reclaiming #1 in the short run.
  • The Nets, 3-30 … 9-73 still seems safe because the sheer amount of bad luck required – but hoo boy.
  • The Grizzlies are 16-16!  Let that sink in.  They are not doing it with defense clearly – but their offense is quite good, augmented by a combination of good shooting (5th in FG%) and the ability to recover misses (#1 in offensive rebounding).
  • The Spurs are #3.  Somehow, insidiously, they rise.
