As for what jumps out …

  • Suddenly, the Top 5 is the Top 5 everyone guessed coming into the season.  That said, the records are striking.  The Cavaliers went 65-17 last year.  They are 30-10 now.  Given their 26th ranked schedule, there is still work to do, so is a 35-7 finish realistic?  A 60 win team might not emerge.  The middle of the league has grown a lot.
  • The Pistons as of 2008 made 6 straight conference finals.  Now at 11-25, soft, spending their cap room on two rotation players (but certainly not game changers) … if the Wizards need to blow everything up, what’s the deal here?
  • The Spurs at #3 are a surprise.  They are surging, but they have done it against a pretty soft schedule lately.  This might turn around especially with the road trip from hell coming up in February (the annual rodeo thing).
  • The Grizzlies would be a 5 seed in the East.  Yuck.
