At this point, looking at the standings, the 8th place team in the West, the Blazers are 4 up on 9th place Memphis with 11 games to go. For all intents and purposes the West field is all set, seeding is the question.  Assuming the standings hold as is, the Western Brackets

Lakers v Blazers (#3 vs #11) … Lakers #9 vs Middle 10, Blazers #13 vs Top 10 … really this is a bad matchup for Portland.  Lakers match the size and play a much faster pace.  Hard to see an upset.

Jazz v Suns (#4 vs #7) … Jazz #10 vs Top 10, Suns #5 vs Top 10 … Suns defense is so much better with Robin Lopez taking a larger role, their D, only 25th but has stabilized.  They looked like they were going to fade out of the picture.  Jazz are so steady everywhere and still seem too big for Phoenix, but still Phoenix has played very well against the iron.

Nuggets v Thunder (#6 vs #9) … Nuggets #3 vs Top 10, Thunder #8 vs Top 10 … Nuggets match up well, and are the West’s best against the iron.  Thunder are the team of the future in a lot of ways, even with absurd uniforms.  But not quite yet.

Mavericks v Spurs (#13 vs #5) … Mavs #6 vs Top 10, Spurs #11 vs Middle 10 … Spurs have been bottom feeders much of the season but have perked up lately.  The Mavs have won an absurd number of close games.  The Mavs wiped out the Spurs in 5 last year against a similar cast of characters.  The numbers say SA though, so this is a tough series to gauge – except have to defer to the matchup and pick the Mavs.

In the East, it is getting closer to set with 2.5 game lead.  Bobcats just need to cruise it on home.  That said, the seeding is still in flux quite a bit.

Cavaliers v Bobcats (#1 vs #15) … Cavs #4 vs Mid 10, Bobcats #9 vs Top 10 … Cats are scrappy and defend well.  That said the Cavs get better as LeBron gets to play more now.  No problem here.

Celtics v Bucks (#8 vs #14) … Celtics #2 vs Mid 10, Bucks #18 vs Top 10 … Bucks have surged lately since the acquisition of John Salmons.  The Celtics had a nice stretch this past week, and they might be rounding into form.  But might is a tough criteria.  This is the best chance of an East first round upset.

Magic v Raptors (#2 vs #17) … Magic #3 vs Middle 10, Raptors #22 vs Top 10 … biggest mismatch in the first round … keep driving

Hawks v Heat (#10 vs #12) … Hawks #5 vs Middle 10, Heat #11 vs top 10 … they played a 7 gamer a year ago.  This may be an interesting series, it’s hard to say.  Hawks are undoubtedly better than they were a year ago – not as sure about the Heat.
