I am not sure this will materialize in real life.  However, this was a bad week for last weeks #1 TCU.  Obviously their struggles with San Diego State were a problem, but combined that with Utah’s horrible loss to Notre Dame, and we have a new number one.  Boise still has decent Fresno State and Nevada left to boost their resume up (along with the rise of Virginia Tech).

What does this mean in a perfect world BCS-wise?

#1 vs #2: Ooh, this would be fun.  Boise State vs TCU

Pac 10: Oregon, QED

Big Ten: Wisconsin and Ohio State the one loss outfits.  Ohio State gets our top rating among the three.

ACC: Virginia Tech or NC State (for now) … Virginia Tech gets the nod

Big 12: Nebraska or Oklahoma State (for now) … Oklahoma State has the body of work despite the head to head result … we’ll go with Okie State today for fun

Big East: Pittsburgh the best of a sorry lot.

SEC: South Carolina or Auburn … Auburn

Using this framework, 6 champs + 2 non AQ schools + 2 more at-larges.  Looking at the Top 14, this is Alabama and Nebraska to me.  Yes Nebraska is outside the Top 14, but finesse them a bit because Iowa’s 3 losses.  Slotting them using the Sugar, Orange, Fiesta pecking order.  Your BCS results?

  • BCS Title Game: Boise State vs TCU
  • Rose Bowl: Ohio State vs Oregon
  • Sugar Bowl: Auburn vs Nebraska
  • Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs Alabama
  • Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma State vs Pittsburgh
